Everybody know’s the song “Teach Me How to Dougie”, but what people probably don’t know is who exactly produced the song. Let me introduce you to female producer Runway Star. Yup that’s right—A female producer!

Ever since the BMI Urban Awards where Cali Swag District as well as herself won a BMI award for the hit song “Teach Me How to Dougie” she has definitely been getting the recognition she deserves. She says “Kurupt came up to me and expressed total shock. Dawn Richard from Dirty Money was pumped about the whole thing. Kreayshawn tweeted me a shout-out saying that she was totally excited that I’m a female producer. It caused chaos on my Twitter account. I’m getting so many followers”. Artists such as Kreayshawn, YG, and Dawn Richard’s are just a few that has expressed interest in working with her.

Runway Star grew up in the music studios with her dad Richard West who worked with Deke Richards of the Motown Records producing group, and sure enough followed in his footsteps. When she was five years old she received a Casio keyboard, and she would spend hours toying with it and the little tunes that it would produce, and over time she really took interest in actually wanting to pursue producing as a career. She started to pick up on different keyboards and learned how to EQ a track.

When creating the beat for “Teach Me How to Dougie” Runway Star decided to keep things simple like the Neptunes which she is a big fan of. She says that the Neptunes let the artist build the beat up with the vocals, and that’s the stance she took when creating the beat for Cali Swag District. She used Reasons and Pro-Tools together, for the drums she used the Tom Tom’s and the 808, and flipped it all together to make it work. She sure did made it work! This is girl is in the lab knocking out tracks.

Since working with Cali Swag District Runway Star has collaborated with another producer Nigel Starr. and has formed the Production group called “The Makerz” When talking about the team up she says “Nigel is really good with melodies and playing the piano. I can play the piano just a little bit – not the way he can. He’s also an engineer so his ears are as tuned as mine. It made sense for me. Together it just works out amazing.”

What the two are working on at the moment is an EP for an artist named Young De. They are also working with another named Ceekay Jones who just released a new song that we produced called “Gucci Punk” with Taxman from The Kottonmouth Kingz. Runway Star and Nigel both directed the video for that song also.

In addition to having undeniable skills as a producer Runway is also a very talented artist and writer establishing herself as a rising trendsetter and international hit maker. This girl is going places and I hope to see more women producers come out and do their thing like she is.

Respected all around for her flow, Ruby Ibarra is a young and inspiring lyricist, spoken word artist and rapper from the East Bay Area, California on a new level of music production. She is breaking all kinds of barriers by being not only a female artist in the rap game, but also being Asian American. This passionate and hard working young lady is setting the bars higher and higher for all rappers and lyricists out there in the world today.

When Ruby Ibarra was five she found in her mother’s music collection a Filipino rap album that she really took a liking to, and after listening to the cassette tape every day she was able by heart to recite all the lyrics. At a young age she was fascinated with poetry, and her poetry it what became her rap lyrics. She found herself being inspired by artists such as Tupac and Eminem’s ability to tell such a painted story through rhymes and rhythm.

Ruby always experiments with different inner bar rhymes and different rhyme schemes because she has always been fascinated by how rhymes can be used to create interesting sounds. She also loves exploring how one can say things in different ways, so what

Ibarra does is uses word play and metaphors to get the listener to think about the lyrics. She is inspired by my experiences, cultural history, and stories that have generally been left untold by the media.

Ruby Ibarra has been rapping for out six years now, and she said in the past year, music has taken her to cities she’s never been to before and allowed her to meet people that she’s been a fan of. She is very excited to see where it continues to takes her, and as she continues to write honest lyrics, she hopes that people will still be listening because she certainly have a lot more to say. I definitely think that people will continue to listen to Ruby and her fan base will continue to grow because you can’t ignore the talent that this girl brings forth.

In an interview with XXL Magazine ruby said that she is going to change the game by creating music with both substance and lyrical technique. “I want to bring back raw, gritty hip-hop that was about spitting your ill-est verses and being the best on the mic. I also plan on using this platform to educate and tell the stories that’s been left untold by the media”, she stated.

She would love to work with artist like the RZA (Whom she said would be a dream to work with) , Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Lupe Fiasco, DJ Premier, and J. Cole. To all aspiring female lyricists, Ruby states “ keep grindin’ and continue to be yourself. Skill has no gender, so I hope more of my ladies are represented in rap! Ruby Ibarra is definitely going to go far in the rap game, and I can’t wait to see her really shine like the star she is.

R&B artist Shun Ward hasn’t had the easiest life, but with the help of his uncle he is making his dreams come true and is focusing on singing, writing, and recording.

Christopher DeShun Ward was born on February 16, 1988 in Tyler, Texas. He is the only child to his mother is Pamela Ward. Shortly after his birth, Shun’s mother relocated to Houston, TX.

At the age of three his mother and great grandmother discovered that he loved to sing. He had an incredible voice and a talent for remembering church songs.

When he was five years old he was invited to sing and travel with the New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church Choir. They performed at many churches around Houston. As they traveled, Shun Ward became known and respected around the community for his strong voice and singing ability. A couple of years later his great grandmother (who was one of the church organizers) asked if he would like to become the lead singer of The New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church choir. Of course, Shun was excited to take on the responsibility.

At around the age of nine is when Shun Ward started performing at talent shows around the north side of Houston. He would go on to win a youth choir competition at Forest Brook High School where he competed against 14-15 year olds. At the very young age of 14 Shun would compete at several different talent shows and started to experiment with writing and recording his own material. Unfortunately, as he honed his writing skills he would also become influenced by the streets.

Shun was arrested when he was 21 years old and spent a year behind bars, and when he was released from prison he vowed to change his life, and get back to the thing he loves the most in his life; his music. The singer states “ I am an R&B artist with the swagg of a hustler and a style like no other. If you like Drake then your going to love me” I think the young singer has a really good voice, and I am excited to see what he will bring to the world in the New Year. I think once he get’s signed he will really go places!

You can listen to more of his music at http://www.reverbnation.com/shunward, and he also has a Facebook page that you can hit up as well. http://www.facebook.com/pages/SHUN-WARD/180687985285775

This is a unique combination of a Model/Dancer at heart and a Rap Bully at will. This (34-25-39) is a trigger happy, shoot first bad girl, whose music reflects the hood life, the highlife, the fast life and night hours.

Her first single, “Believe the Hype” is a classic back to the basics for those who lack lyrical ability; male or female (get your bars up)! Another highlighted single, “I’m Addicted” gives you an invoice of her passion of high heels and full course meals (Bon-appetite). Drawing inspiration from the love of life Miss Poppin is on a mission to fill in the blanks for females in Hip Hop. She is the true certified total package no preservatives and no bullshit and of course Miss Poppin does not move without a rap sheet.

Se has previously working with super producer Easy Mo Bee and multi-platinum artist Wyclef Jean, just to name a few heavy hitters.

Miss Poppin’s goal is to create great music, continue to hit the streets hardcore and promote and perform at all venues that have an open mic for her to show off. She’s totally set on eliminating all competition by any means, and killing any and all clichés and stereotypes of young black females in the current game and bring quality control to today’s market of “here today and gone tomorrow” artists. I’m digging that right there!

She also has been in a couple of print ads in magazines. Miss Poppin hasn’t forgotten about her modeling either. She has been in publications such as Sweets Magazine, and Straight Stuntin Magazine.

I can definitely say that R&B artist Latasha Lee was born to sing. When you see her in her videos she makes it look so effortless. She has an amazing voice that comes across so natural and pure that you can’t help but get lost in her songs. She reminds me a little bit of Adele, Brandy , and the late Amy Winehouse all mixed in one.

Latasha Lee was born in Corpus Christi, TX. At an early age Tasha’s mom, Michelle Herron knew she was destined to perform. Singing since the age of three, Tasha often entertained family and friends with her rendition of Stop In The Name Of Love by the Supremes. By age nine Tasha and her sister Tonya started performing at school talent shows and local community events in Corpus Christi.

The family relocated to Austin TX two years later which opened up new opportunities for Tasha. Tasha and Tonya quickly linked up with some other girls and formed the group The Homegirls and began performing at various events (Pecan Street Festival, Jump On It, The Black Expo) and venues (The Victory Grill, Luling Civic Center). One of the highlights was receiving a proclamation from the Mayor declaring it Homegirls Day for a day.

Latasha Lee, song, Get Away, is a perfect way to get the modern pop culture back to the roots of true R&B. In the video, Lee dons a look reminiscent of the Motown classics. Her hair poofed and in a glamorous ’60s inspired dress, Lee will either steal your heart with her soulful voice or with her stunning looks.

I feel this song can totally be a classic. In my opinion Latasha Lee is a singer that is accessible, human, and absolutely relate-able which is highlighted in this video. She also has me hooked by trying to popularize REAL music again.

This girl has some real natural talent, and I’m hoping the new year will bring her lots more attention. She is banging, and is just what the R&B world needs right now!

Check out more of her music at http://www.myspace.com/lovemusiclyric and her Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Latasha-Lee-Fan-Page/153134764732484?sk=wall.
David Dallas (born August 28 in Papatoetoe, Auckland) is an award winning New Zealand rapper and producer, formerly known as Con Psy, signed to P-Money’s Dirty Records. He released his debut EP Something Now in 2008, and then his debut solo album, “Something Awesome”, was released in August 2009. David Dallas recently release his project The Rose Tint through Duck Down (which is home to artists such as Blue Scholars, Black Moon, Smif-N-Wessun, Sean Price, Pharoahe Monch, and Kidz in the Hall) and is putting New Zealand and Samoa on the hip-hop map with his music.

Some of you may know him because he is also half of the award winning duo Frontline, who were the recipients of the New Zealand Music Awards Best Hip Hop Album award in 2006 for their album Borrowed Time. He also received the 2003 NZ Music Awards Songwriter of the Year award for his contribution to Scribe’s Not Many: The Remix! alongside Scribe, P-Money and Savage.

His new project is by far hands down one of the hottest albums out in my opinion. The beat in his video from Start Looking Around is crazy ill, and has the lyrics to compliment. Now I’m up in my zone feeling like a mother fucking cyclone, I can do whatever I set my sights on” . I don’t know about anyone else but I’m definitely digging it, and I like the flow he brings to the game. I really hope to see David Dallas next year in the BET Cypher.

Dallas started rapping because he has always been a big fan of hip-hop music for as long as he could remember, and his friends didn’t think he sounded wack when he stepped up to the mic. He plans to change the game by showing people that great music can come from a small island at the bottom of the earth, which it seems like is already doing. In the future David Dallas hopes to work with any of the great producers such as Dre, The Neptunes, Kanye, Timbo, Organized Noize, and Just Blaze to name a few.

This blazing new artist caught my attention when my friend who is a huge Michael Jackson fan sent me the link to a Youtube video. Donny B Lord Aka D.B.L. is a former protege of the Jackson family (as in Michael, Janet, Jermaine, La Toya, etc) who has a real passion for music and has been heating up the pop music world. Donny was mentored by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and founding member of the Jackson Five, Jackie Jackson. Donny was selected from hundreds of young singers to take part in a singing group produced and created by Jackson. Donny B Lord had the privilege of working alongside some of the best in the business, including Pop legend Michael Jackson.

Donny B Lord met top mainstream producers such as the hit making team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson), Damon Thomas (The Underdogs), hit songwriters such as Diane Warren and Lionel Richie, and the best choreographers and dancers in the industry. Under Jackson’s tutelage, D.B.L. continued to craft his songwriting and musical production skills. According to Jackie Jackson; “D.B.L. incredibly possesses the same precision, execution and command-of-the-stage that have been the signature of the Jackson 5! He is not only an impressive artist, whom I envision achieving the fame and popularity parallel to other mainstream male Pop acts such as Justin Timberlake, Akon, and Usher, to name a few. He has lived and traveled the world, experiencing and embracing many different cultures, making him an artist of universal appeal, and for achieving international superstardom.”

Donny B Lord has stated in numerous interviews that he definitely values all of his experiences in the past, but is now creating a new one. His new pop/dance track Party On the Moon is very futuristic and gives off great vibes. The track encourages independent artists from all over to stay both true to themselves and to their artistic vision. Definitely a belief I stand for.

Before his music career began Donnie B Lord at the young age of seven booked Pepsi, Cheerios and Footlocker commercials. In film, Lord played a choirboy in Paramount All I want for Christmas, and portrayed a young Hank Gathers in Tribune Entertainment Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story. Additionally, he has performed as a singer/dancer on The Walt Disney Company Presents The American Teacher Awards; The 15th and 17th Annual People’s Choice Awards, and the 18th Annual Soul Train Music Awards.

Released independently by Lord’s Curly Locks Entertainment, LLC, Party On The Moon, is receiving regular radio airplay nationwide. Lord is a nominee for Best Pop Artist, for the All Indie Music Awards, at which he will perform, to be held on February 10, 2012 at the Key Club in Hollywood.

I can’t wait to see what D.B.L. will bring to us next. His single Party On the Moon can be downloaded on Itunes. You can check out more of him at http://donnyblord.com/
