Mac Miller was one of the first up and coming artists I wrote out over a year and half ago, and it’s great to see the rapper out there doing his thing for the entire world to see. Mac has gone straight to the top without a major recording label backing him, and in 2012 from touring and doing shows this Independent artist has grossed over $6 Million dollars.
2012 was very monumental for the 21 year who went platinum, received the Complex’s Man of Next Year Award, and in the highest honor at the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards won the Woodie of the Year, and now on MTV2 everyone can watch Mac live out his dreams as the cameras follow him and his crazy “Most Dope Family” crew. The crew is made up of his businessman mastermind Quentin, the artistically gifted Jimmy, fashion entrepreneur Peanut and NFL-player-turned-bodyguard Big Dave.
Mac’s show debuted on MTV2 two weeks ago showing the youngster and his crew leaving Philly behind and settling in their new California palm tree celeb lifestyle. Throughout the six episodes of the reality series viewers will watch as the camera capture the production of Miller’s sophomore album “Watching Movies With the Sound Off”, as well as blowing off steam and having fun in CALIFORN-I-A with the Most Dope Family.
Mac told MTV “ I was skeptical about doing a TV show because I don’t wanna be ‘the guy from the TV show’ — I’m an artist and I wanna make music, but we did YouTube videos that were behind-the-scenes, and this is kinda taking that a little further. Instead of on YouTube, it’s on TV now”. He added “I m excited to see what happens. I wasn’t excited until [recently], because the whole time I’m thinking, ‘Man, this show’s gonna suck. It’s me — what do people wanna look at me for? This isn’t exciting, I’m not Kanye West, I’m Mac Miller; it’s just me and the homeys.’ And then I saw some clips from it, and it was kinda tight ’cause it looks so MTV-y.
Personally I think the show is hilarious as well as entertaining, and you can’t help but be happy for Mac Miller as you watch how far in this game he has come. I hope it gets picked up for more episodes! Check out Mac’s Show on MTV2 @ 11:30 PM EST.
