B&G Productions AKA ( Blade & Ghost Dog) are a dynamic duo producing team that’s reppin Chi-town and New York City. Ghost Dog and Blade met through some mutual DJ friends back in 2000 and have collaborated on tracks back in the day, but have recently decided to pick things up again going full steam ahead and forming B&G Productions.
These two are musical chameleons. Their innovative style brings together a fusion of Hip-Hop and Soul music. Although deeply rooted in the Hip-Hop culture, B&G’s musical talent extends way beyond the genre alone — their production style is very versatile.
Ghost Dog, after being in a rock band realized that this was killing his music experience and wanted more so he decided to get in to the beat making/ production side of things and never looked back. Blade who has been a hip hop head since the 90s loved the lyrics, but was more fascinated with the beats. He had started out making hip hop drum patterns before he became a house music DJ, but is back making ill Hip Hop beats since 2006 when he started taking production more seriously.
When interviewed by Hiphophead.com Blaze says his biggest influences as producer is N.O.I.D., DJ Premier, and Alchemist. He liked the work that he did with N.O.I.D. on Common’s Resurrection , and loves Alchemist’s drum programming and sample selection. Ghost’s has always been a huge fan of the legendary Beatles, so a primary influence for him has been George Martin. He says I’ve dissected those records many times over. Its amazing what they did with reel-to reel four track, and I doubt anyone could replicate the sort of magic on a Pro Tools HD rig with unlimited tracks.
As far as Hip Hop goes Ghost Dog is truly inspired by innovators like Timberland, Just Blaze, and Dr. Dre. He feels they really speak to him, and they’re the best around because their work is always spot on. Blaze and Ghost are working very hard to place their music and gain exposure, and are always looking to find that go to artist. In the last year the duo has placed 2nd at the istandard Producer Showcase NYC, participated in the A&R Power Summit Producer Showcase, placed 3rd in the istandard Producers Showcase in Chicago, and last but not least was nominated in the Best Emerging Producer Category at 8th Annual Underground Music Awards.
The sky is the limit for these two. They would love to connect with a great business team to keep their work rolling in the right direction. On a day to day basis they find it rather hard to maintain the business side of things when they are working on banging out great beats. B&G Productions is quickly becoming one of the most sought after production teams. Their constant goal is to continually raise the bar.
Their music has been praised by everyone from Scram Jones to the legendary Buckwild. Currently self published, B&G Productions is actively pursuing song placements and licenses for Movies, Television and Video Games. They are definitely on the road to taking musical to the next level!
