Rap artist Kid Cudi announced on LA’s Power 106 this week that he has decided to leave G.O.O.D. Music, which is the label ran by his mentor Kanye West. The artist says he is ready to start in a new direction, and wants to try new things like acting. Cudi tried is hand at acting in the short-lived “How to Make In America” HBO show, and plans to keep on trying out new things., and won’t let anyone or anything get in the way of that.
Cudi has also stressed to his fans that there is no beef whatsoever with anyone on the label, and his reasoning for leaving was more about business and nothing more. During his interview yesterday the rapper stated, “Man, everything is cool,” the Ohio native said. “Everything is peace with everybody on the label. There have never been any issues, but I am announcing that I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. And this is something that no one knows, really. I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music.”
For Cudi, going to Kanye and “breaking up” was difficult because he sees his mentor as his “big brother forever”, and decided to sought out advice from rapper Jay Z on how to handle things. He was like, ‘Yo, man, I hear it in your tone that it’s genuine and everything that you’re saying to me, how you’re saying it. I know Kanye. I know he’ll be receptive to that. I know he’ll honor it.”
Kid Cudi says he still plans to make music with the rest of the G.O.O.D. click in the future, which includes artist such as Big Sean and Pusha T.
