Meet Ne-Yo’s latest vocal discovery up and coming singer RaVaughn Brown. She decided after hearing “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” that she was going to be a singer, and she is definitely more than on her way. Miss Brown who had done backup singing for artist such as Kerri Hilson, Brandy, and Keyshia Cole didn’t get her big break until working on a demo for a producer friend of hers. She went in to sing on a demo for a friend at the last minute, and to her surprise the writer was singer/songwriter Ne-Yo.
After working with Ne-Yo on the initial demo, the Grammy nominated artist told her that he would be calling her to work on more demos, and that’s exactly what he did. After doing some more work together Ne-Yo found out through producers and executives that she had done back up singing for very talented women. RaVaughn says after doing two more demos for Ne-Yo the artist texted her and said, “What is it? You Crazy? What’s going on?’ and I’m like ‘Huh. What do you mean?’ He’s like ‘we’ll you sang for all these people, and he’s like: All the record labels and executives know who you are how come no body has ever tried to sign you? There has to be a reason.’ I was like ‘I’ve been presented with things before but I wasn’t comfortable or it fell through.”
After hearing this Ne-Yo told Brown that she thought she had a lot of potential and enjoyed working with her, and wanted to keep on that working-relationship path. He signed her to his base record production team called Compound U where they worked on about 12 songs, and selected 4 to present to Columbia Records who loved her so much and welcomed Brown with open arms. RaVaughn stated in an interview with hellobeautiful.com “I had my first meeting with Columbia and I didn’t do a showcase or anything, they just loved the sound of my voice. They were like “We’re very interested. We don’t have anything like you here!”
Since signing with Columbia Records the Los Angeles native released had one of her tracks ‘Same Ol’ BS’ was featured on Steve Harvey’s book to movie “Think Like a Man”, and last year she released her EP ‘Love Always..The Introduction. Check this video out Better Be Good feat. Wale. She is definitely one to look out for this year, and I can’t wait to see what she drops next. Let us know what you think!
