We all know that Diddy is always working on multiple projects whether it’s building a Vodka Brand, working on a new album, a new line for Sean John, etc and one of his latest projects is executive producing his new up and coming group iSquare. iSquare is the newest and youngest crew that mixes Pop, R&B, and Hip-hop. Not since Puffys original Making The Band product, Da Band have we seen Diddy produce a group with a mixture of genders and genre all in one group.
iSquare reminds me a bit of Black Eyed Peas with a little Diddy style. The group that is made up of three males and one female. Mike J is the R&B crooner of the bunch, providing geeky but smooth Ne-Yo-esque vocals. 10Beats is the crew’s MC, and Briddy is the gang’s hypeman. So you can say hes the Taboo to their Black Eyed Peas. Last but not least is the lady of the group Destiny who describes herself as the ethereal singer of the group. In an interview with Seventeen Magazine when asked to describe their sound the group said We call it a pot of gumbo, because it has electronica, R&B, hip-hop, alternative, pop, dance it’s literally a little bit of everything.
Their trancy dancy single out now “Sexy Lady” in my opinion is fun and youthful, and I love that the song is all about having a good time.
As far as having Sean Combs as their mentor they all feel that Diddy is like a big brother to all of them, and has taught them a lot. They all think hes very cool and humble which keeps all of them humble and they really enjoy the time they spend working and hanging with him.
On Youtube you can check out iSquares journey as they make their album-Just like the Making The Bands series that was shown on MTV but minus making the band part since iSquare wasn’t made to audition with a hundreds of other people or made to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge for cheesecake just for a spot in the group.
Let us know what you think of iSquares sound! Do you think they can last? Seems like every group/artist that Diddy produces or has a hand in they don’t seem to go to the distance. Maybe isquare will break the streak!
