This singer songwriter who is only 23 years is making big waves in the music industry. Frank Ocean has written for artist like Beyonce, John Legend, Brandy, and Justin Beiber. Last year he even worked with Nas on the rap artists 10th studio album.
Ocean, who was born Christopher Breaux is a native of New Orleans, LA and was attending the University of New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit and was evacuated to Los Angeles where he ended up staying to pursue a music career. In 2009 he signed a contract with Def Jam Records, but it wasn’t until he released his first mixtape nostalgia, ULTRA is when finally his relationship with the label strengthened.
He performed with group Odd Future at Coachella this year, and went on tour with his group members along the eastern seaboard after the California Music Festival. I was turned on to Frank by a friend a couple of weeks ago on a road trip, and “Thinking About You” was the first song I heard. This kids falsetto blew my mind right away! I was definitely feeling a Maxwell vibe on this track Ocean in my opinion is way ahead of his time, and is a gift to the music world. His mixtape focuses on interpersonal relationships as well as social commentary and personal reflection. This year he was also featured on Jay Z’s and Kanye West collaborative Album “Watch the Throne” as an artist and as writer.
Andrew Noz from NRP says Ocean song writing is smart and subtle which sets his apart from the pack and Rolling Stone Magazine Jonah Weiner called Frank Ocean a gifted Avant R&B smoothie . I can’t way to see what he has instore for everyone in 2012! You can follow him on twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/frank_ocean and you can listen to his mixtape at http://twitter.com/#!/frank_ocean.
